Is iPad Mini on the Way?

Keeping with the traditional label of “mini” for an Apple product that’s a smaller version of a major device, Apple’s rumoured to be releasing an iPad Mini by September this year or early 2011, at least according to iLounge’s report.

"A seven-inch-screened version of the iPad is substantially finished and will be ready for announcement either later this year or early in 2011. Apple has been prototyping devices with screens of this size for a long time—quite possibly predating the original iPhone."

Moreover, a few blogs, who say they have a "reliable source", such as ZDNet and iLounge are reporting that we could see the rumored 7″ iPad Mini as early as the end of 2010 or beginning of 2011. The source states that a 7″ iPad is “substantially finished.”

Other sources are reporting that there could be an even smaller model measuring 5″. You may find some more room for it in a small bag but it’s still pushing the limits of being able to be slid into a pocket. The 5″ iPad reportedly will be priced under $400.

So, what do you think? Many people find how it is too heavy for comfortable reading. Would you buy an iPad Mini over a traditional iPad? What if you already had an iPad?

I don’t think I would, unless they’re bringing something new to the table that the iPad doesn’t currently have. Personally I like the fact that iPad has the larger screen and wouldn’t opt for the smaller 7″ screen. I do see the allure of the smaller device. We’ll have to wait and see what happens later this year.
